Stan WongIshares Trust S & P Global Healthcare IndexIXJPAST TOP PICKNov 23, 2022

(A Top Pick Nov 24/21, Up 0.02%) Flat, but still beating the S&P by a wide margin. Likes healthcare, it's his 2nd or 3rd largest sector weighting right now. Solid names with both defensive and growth characteristics. Nice dividend, too.

For healthcare, you really need to look south of the border. Limited offerings in Canada, where it's either marijuana or senior living.

Consider either IXJ or XHC, depending on what currency you want to purchase in. Broad-based, with major large-cap healthcare names. Pharma, healthcare products, services, and includes UNH. Likes the space, as you get both defensive and growth characteristics.

Yes, it is fairly steady, but healthcare is always subject to things happening from government (especially in the US) such as pricing pressure. So that could cause a bit of volatility.

BUY

Likes healthcare in general, a larger weight for him. Healthcare has been the leader YTD, only 11 days into the new year. Great, diversified way to own international and US names in the healthcare space. About 70% US, rest international. With healthcare, you get growth and defense. 42 bps.

BUY
His preference in the space. Basket of global healthcare names, and only a 40 bps MER.
TOP PICK
Healthcare has both defensive characteristics + growth attributes. Includes medical devices, pharma, medicare, biotechnology. Usually strong balance sheets with lots of cash, paving the way for higher dividends, share buybacks, and M&A activity. Aging population and growing middle class enhance prospects for healthcare. 70% is in US names. JNJ, PFE, Roche Holdings, ABT, UNH. Yield is about 1.1%.
BUY

This is an interesting one and he has no problems with it. The one thing is that it is about 60% US, so it is not that much diversification on a global basis. Nothing wrong with that though.

COMMENT

Healthcare has been one of the spaces that has had very good earnings growth in the S&P and probably global as well. A very stable space. Probably a little bit of a stretch in terms of valuation. He tends to like some of the biotech names. Feels healthcare will continue to run because of the need to own something more secure and put into things that have a nice dividend. Very little volatility.
