COMMENT
Now's the time to pick up some blue-chip stocks, including the tech giants Apple, Facebook plus the Canadian banks after last year's correction. He's generally optimistic. It's amazing how the market has turned in 30 days from the world is ending to a bull market. There's low unemployment and good earnings. Apart from Trump saying something crazy, conditions are good. Valuations went from cheap to the middle now. If China and the US don't sign a trade deal, that will be a negative, but he expects some sort of trade deal. Neither country wants the world to spiral into recession.

Well-run. Demographics favour cruise lines; seniors like cruises. There's growth opportunity in Asia where RCL has a dominant position. Trades at a cheap 11.5x earnings. Also, ships can easily be moved to high-demand areas; RCL can literally move their assets around to make money. Personally, he doesn't like cruises, but he knows many who do.

Just hit 52-week high Firing on all cyclinders with strong demand for global travel. But he doesn't buy stocks at 52-week highs. Wait for a pullback to buy or add.

PARTIAL SELL
Amazon.com, Inc.
They dominate cloud, online retailing and other areas and now getting into streaming. Boasts a loyal user base. A remarkable company. Look past the valuation and remember that they are reinvesting their revenue for the future. Don't buy a huge position, because the valuation is high. Google and Facebook have better valuations.

An excellent company with a strong long-term record. Stable earnings and cash flow generation. Consistently grows. Recurring revenue with high margins. It's not as cheap as it once was. He added during the last earnings when it pulled back.

BUY
Bank of America
BAC vs. Wells Fargo Both are well-run, with BAC trading at a slightly lower multiple, so he favours BAC. Also, Wells has a scandal to still deal with it and management issues, which is why he's stayed away from it. A rising yield curve boosts all the US banks, so that's's now a headwind as rate increases slow down. Both benefit from a strong US economy.

Getting into the cannabis space? He likes and has long owned this. They have a good core brewing operation, the second-largest craft brewer in Canada. They are aggressively pursuing cannabis drinks. He thinks they will be one of the first to market cannabis drinks in Canada when it becomes legal. They have a modern facility in Cambridge, ON with lots of excess capacity. They're in a position to grow and take advantage of the cannabis space. This isn't built into the share price yet, so BRB is great value now.

All Canadian banks were beat up late last year which let him add to existing positions, like RY. But you can buy the worst-performing bank in a given year, expecting it do well in the next. Trades at an attractive multiple.

Norbord Inc
Good for dividends in the next 5 years? A good company. He just bough back into this. It's a play on North American housing. They also have a European business. There are concerns about US housing slowing, though. They pay a good, adjustable dividend based on business performance, which has decreased recently, but is still around 4%. They're good capital allocators and are buying back a lot of shares which shows self-confidence.

PAST TOP PICK
Cascades Inc
(A Top Pick Apr 24/18, Down 21%) Recent earnings have been reasonably strong, but he sold earlier at $11.50 to cut his losses and risk. There's a lot of new capacity in the containerboard industry coming, and there are worries about weakening pricing going with worries over the economy. That's why this stock has been under pressure. Demand for boxes moves up and down with the economy. A cyclical.

PAST TOP PICK
Alcanna
(A Top Pick Apr 24/18, Down 47%) It's oversold. He's watching it and may buy back his position. They've gotten into cannabis retailing out west and are looking at Ontario where he expects them to have a strong presence. Note: Aurora bought 25% of CLIQ at $15/share (today $5). Ouch.

PAST TOP PICK
(A Top Pick Apr 24/18, Up 47%) They have a strong position in BC gaming and are bidding in Ontario. He's trimmed his position, but really likes this still. GC basically has a monopoly on gaming in Toronto, and are building across Ontario. Toronto is underserved with lots of demand, so it will be lucrative for GC. He'll own this for the long haul.

An industrial REIT? The industrial warehouse sector is in high demand and a growth area in the next decade. He's watching this closely. These stocks have done well and recommends Dream.

Home Depot
There is short-term data that says there is short-term housing weakness across North America, but HD is a well-run business. They don't entirely depend on new homes; in fact, they also depend on existing homeowners removating their homes. They can benefit from weather events, short term. The US housing market will remain strong for coming years. A blue chip stock.
