TSX closes March on a high
The TSX ended the month 4.4% higher and the day up -.37% to 22,167, a record high. More sectors than not gained, led by materials, energy and utilities while staples and industrials lagged the most.
Key names included Barrick Gold up 2.46%, B2Gold 3.2%, ATS -6.02%, Cargojet -3.29% and Manulife 1.2% as it traded the most hands. WTI crude climbed 2% to $83 a barrel. Speaking of highs, gold climbed to $2,240 an ounce.
Trading was subdued and mixed on Wall Street, with the S&P and Dow adding around 0.11%, but the Nasdaq shedding as much on Friday. For March, the S&P rallied 3%, the Nasdaq 1.5% and the Dow 2%. Walgreens rose 3.19%, Tesla -2.25%, Estee Lauder 6.28%, Carnival -4.94% and Moderna -3.04%. The U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.2%. As Bitcoin rose 1.7% to $70,600, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing billions of dollars from investors.
