New highs for S&P and Nasdaq
On Tuesday, Wall Street extended its winning streak into the second half of the year after the S&P and Nasdaq made fresh highs. The S&P rallied 0.62% to breach 5,500 while the Nasdaq gained 0.84% to top 18,000. Meanwhile, the Dow added 0.41%.
Once again, tech led the march higher, though the most active name, Nvidia, closed the session at -1.3%. Tesla soared 10.2%, Apple 1.62%, ON Semiconductor 5.44% and Paramount Global 5.72%. The U.S. 10-year yield touched 4.4359% as Bitcoin sank 1.35% to dip below US$62,000.
The TSX reopened for business and rose 0.36% to nearly 22,000. Big movers included Kinross Gold at -3.78%, Ballard Power -3.88%, CNQ 1.13%, Power 1.74% and TD up 0.51% as the most-traded name. Gold hovered around US$2,329 and WTI slipped 0.38% to US$83.
