Commodities lift TSX, Wall Street flat
Tuesday saw oil, minerals and other commodities lift the TSX by 0.55%. Sectors were mixed, but energy, financials and materials rallied while consumer discretionary and staples lagged.
Suncor was the most-traded stock, adding 1.6%. Barrick Gold jumped 4.16%, Cenovus 2.51%, Tilray -5.63% and Mullen Group -4.49% as some of the major movers. WTI crude rose 1.2% to $76 a barrel.
Wall Street saw modest gains. The Nasdaq and S&P added a handful of points and were essentially flat, though the Dow advanced 0.28%. Gaining were Moderna by nearly 6%, and oil names such as Schlumberger by 3.87%. However, Warner Bros. Discovery closed -2.35%, UPS -2.69% and Tesla sank another 8.05% a day after Twitter users voted Elon Musk to find someone to replace him as that platform’s CEO. Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year yield inched up 3.68% while Bitcoin leapt 2.68% to nearly $17,000.
