Choppy Monday though oil rises
Markets began yet another week of volatility as stocks, especially in America, bounced between positive and negative Monday. The S&P closed -0.39%, the Nasdaq -1.2% and the Dow finished even at 0.08%. WTI and WCS crude jumped over $3 a barrel each to $114 and $103 respectively and helped lift the TSX 0.53%. In Toronto, telcos and materials also rallied while tech declined.
Dye & Durham surged 17.43% further while Canfor rallied 8.65%, Tilray jumped 6.64% and Crescent Point Energy rose 4.35%. Losing ground were Shopify down nearly 11%, Lightspeed sliding 7.89% and Ballard Power falling 4.51%.
The U.S. 10-year yield hovered around 2.88% while Bitcoin slid 4.4% to below $30,000, continuing its choppy trade. Major movers on Wall Street included AT&T adding 2.22%, Ford down 3.33%, Nvidia retreating 2.5% and Twitter cascading 8.18% on more unpreditable Tweets from Elon Musk which continues to cast doubt on him buying the social media company. Speaking of which, Tesla slid 5.88%. Also losing ground were Starbucks at -4.21% and Warner Brothers Discovery at -4.92% while Eli Lilly rose 2.66% and Occidental surging 5.68%.
