AI disruption fears slam markets
Fears of AI disrupting several industries wiped about many sectors on Wednesday. The TSX closed -2.37% or nearly 790 points, the S&P -1.57%, the Nasdaq -2.03% and the Dow -1.34%. In Toronto, materials, industrials and tech sold off particularly hard while staples was among only three sectors in the green. Key names: SunLife Financial up 6.32%, but competitor Manulife was down 5.25%, Allied Properties REIT -9.66%, Novagold Resources -13.5% and WSP Global -12.51% along with the infrastructure sector.
In New York, AppLovin closed -19.68%, Cisco -12.32%, Apple -5%, Intel -3.75% and Equinix 10.41%. Bitcoin slid another US$2,100 to US$65,670 while silver tanked 10.75% to US$75.10, gold slipped US$158 to US$4,926 and WTI fell 2.66% to US$62.90. The U.S. 10-year yield declined slightly to 4.1%
