Friday the 13th
Friday the thirteenth was luckier for the TSX which recovered a fair bit of the gains lost in Thursday’s sell-off, triggered by fears of AI disruption across many sectors. On Friday, the TSX rallied 1.75% or 568 points to finish the week 1.85% higher. All sectors but telcos gained, led by materials, discretionary and healthcare. Key names: Enbridge 3.79%, Magna International 18.94%, B2Gold 7.93%, IGM Financial 8.42% and Telus -3.22%. WTI was flat at US$62.85, while silver climbed 2.35% to US$77 and gold US$111 to US$5,034.
Wall Street wasn’t as lucky. The S&P and Dow were flat on Friday while the Nasdaq slipped 0.22%. Thursday’s plunge kept the averages down for the week with the S&P -1.4%, the Nasdaq -2.1% and the Dow -1.23%.Major movers: Nvidia -2.21%, Coinbase 16.46%, Apple -2.27%, Applied Materials 8.05%, and Constellation Brands -8.04%. Bitcoin regained nearly 5% to US$69,020 while the U.S. 10-year-yield slipped to 4.05%.
