Markets hit new highs across the board
Markets laid down a royal flush Monday as the major indices in New York and Toronto all made record closes, driven by continued optimism, upbeat earnings and climbing oil prices. The TSX rose 0.91% to 21,228 as WTI crude climbed 1% and WCS nearly twice as much to roughly $84 and $69 per barrel, respectively. Energy as well as tech fueled Toronto’s rally leaving real estate as the only sector in (modest) decline.

Similarly, energy rallied on the Dow while industrials also rose. The Dow nearly closed above 36,000 after advancing 0.26%. The S&P inched up 0.18% to 4,613, and the Nasdaq added 0.63% to 15,595.
