TSX hits new high in broad rally
Green lit up trading boards on Thursday, especially in Canada as the TSX rose 1.12% or about 260 points to close at a new high of 23,470. Shining brightest were mining stocks: B2gold 12.9%, First Majestic Silver 11.97%, Calibre Mining 4.87% and Equinox Gold 9.9%. As interest rates continue to fall, dividend payers are thriving. Blue-chip Royal Bank added 0.55% to close at an all-time high. Meanwhile, gold climbed 1.7% to US$2,585 while WTI crude recovered 2.8% to US$69.20
On Wall Street, the S&P added 0.7%, the Nasdaq 0.92% and the Dow 0.57%. The latest producers’ inflation number came in as expected, but it failed to lift the U.S. 10-year yield above 3.7%. Major movers: Warner Bros. Discovery 10.3%, Kroger 6.98%, Broadcom 4.15%, Micron -3.98% and Moderna -12.51%. Bitcoin edged up by 1.25% to US$58,270.
