TSX edges up, Wall Street flat
Friday saw the trading week end 0.57% higher on the TSX and 0.21% for the session, led by consumer staples and most sectors while materials lagged.
Major movers were Canada Goose soaring 3.98%, Algonquin Power surging 3.86% and Shopify adding 2.66% while First Quantum Minerals closed -6.02% and Hudbay Minerals -3.77%. WTI declined 0.5% to fall below $78 a barrel.
The three major American indices all losed a few points higher on Friday. The Nasdaq and S&P slipped a few points for the week, while the Dow sank 0.36%. Moving higher were Amazon by 3.04%, AT&T by 3.2% and Norwegian Cruise Line up 3.09%, though Albemarle slid 10.17%. The U.S. 10-year yield was 3.568% while Bitcoin retreated 3% to trade around $27,200. Fears of a recession later this year and further interest rate hikes kept markets in check the past week, particularly in the U.S.
