TSX climbs, Wall Street mixed
The trading week began with oil, gold and the TSX rising. The Canadian index added 0.33%, dominated by large gains in energy and minerals. Osisko Mining announced it was being bought out, and its shares rocketed nearly 63%. Meanwhile, Iamgold jumped 10.75% as Barrick rose 9.37% and gold advanced US$40 to US$2,470. WTI rallied 3.6% to nearly US$80 a barrel, helping Tourmaline add 4.2%. The Bank of Nova Scotia announced it was buying a stake in U.S. regional KeyCorp. BNS shares fell 3.56%, but KeyCorp rallied 9.1%.
Wall Street was mixed. The S&P was flat, the Nasdaq up 0.21%, but the Dow down 0.36%. The semis stocks continued to bounce back with Nvidia rising 4.08% and SMCI 6.33%. However, Warner Bros. Discovery ended Monday at -4.48% and Albemarle -6.92%. The U.S. 10-year yield continued to bubble just beneath 4% as Bitcoin advanced 0.9% to US$59,250.
