The rebound continues
Thursday markets extended the previous day’s gains which had sunk on Trump’s threats to take Greenland by force. The major indices in Toronto and New York flirted with all-time highs, with the TSX making an intra-day all-time high. By the close, the TSX was up 0.48% or 165 points to settle above 33,000, the S&P added 0.51%, the Nasdaq 0.91% and the Dow 0.63%. The U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.249%. Also, silver resumed its loft climb, jumping more than US$3 to $96, while gold added US$90 to over $4,900.
Once more, the major movers on Bay Street were the miners: Discovery Silver up 12.21%, First Quantum Minerals -6.02% and Lundin Mining -10.91%. Meanwhile, Baytex sank 5.88% and Celestica slid 6.55%. Key names on Wall Street: Arista Networks 8.74%, Meta 5.66%, Datadog 6.31%, Abbott Labs -10.04% and Huntington Bancshares -6.02%. WTI slid US$1.20 to US$59.45.
