Tech extends gains in mixed session

Wednesday’s markets saw further gains, led by tech, but trading was more mixed than the day before. The TSX rose 0.3% only on the strength of industrials and tech while materials and healthcare led eight sectors downwards.
Move active were Whitecap Resources, up 0.92%, Baytex -5.58% and CNQ -2.29%. In contrast, Finning International surged 6.62% and CP 3.82%. Commodities continued to slip with gold down US$67 to US$3,182 and WTI crude losing 1.26% to US$62.85.
The U.S. 10-year yield climbed further, up to 4.54% while Bitcoin gave back 1.1% to US$103,450. The major industries were mixed: S&P adding six points, the Nasdaq 0.72% and the Dow -0.21%. Most active were the usual suspects: Nvidia surging another 4.16%, Tesla 4.07%, and Super Micro Computer soaring 15.71%. Healthcare weakened: Moderna -5.77% and AbbVie -5.62%.
