Stocks slump on U.S. Fed fears

Thursday saw U.S. jobless claims fall to their lowest level since last September which made investors fear the U.S. Fed will remain hawkish despite declining inflation. As a result, the S&P as well as Dow closed -0.76% and the Nasdaq -0.96% for another negative session.
Tesla traded the most hands and finished -1.18% while semiconductor names struggled such as Nvidia at -3.46%. Elsewhere, Alphabet rose 2.2%, Comerica jumped 5.9% and American Airlines slid 2%. The U.S. 10-year yield remained around 3.397% while Bitcoin climbed 1.25% above $21,000.
The TSX suffered only a modest decline, shedding 0.14%, though most sectors were down. Industrials and real estate led the laggards, though materials and energy showed some strength. Tourmaline Oil was the busiest name but retreated 0.48%, and B2Gold added 1.46%. Equinox soared 9.21%, Ballard Power tanked by 10.55% and GoEasy sank 4.75%. WTI marched upward over 1.15% to approach $81 a barrel.
