Stocks slide on Trump threats
U.S. markets reopened after Monday’s holiday and sharply sold off. No surprise since European markets slid on Monday in reaction to Trump threatening several EU countries and the U.K. with tariffs for defending Greenland that Trump wants to take over. At the close: the S&P -2.06%, the Nasdaq -2.39%, the Dow -1.76% and the TSX -1.01% from yesterday’s high.
Key movers on Wall Street: Sandisk 9.55%, Nvidia -4.38%, Intel 3.41%, Apple -3.46% and Tesla -4.17%. On Bay Street: Cenovus -2.7%, B2Gold 2.72%, Telus -2.18%, Kinross 4.72% and Shopify -6.58%.
Precious maintained highs: gold rose US$87 to US$4,758 while silver held at a record US$94.20. WTI climbed 1.5% to US$60.35. Yields rose with the U.S. 10-year rising to 4.29%.
