Stocks, oil and cryptos rally
The week began with investors in a risk-on mode, driving up stocks and cryptos alike. The S&P rose 1.06%, the Nasdaq 1.27%, and the Dow added 0.71%. It was a rare session that saw both tech and energy lead.
Major gainers included Apple up 3.83%, Amgen by 2.35%, Gilead at 4.12% and Devon Energy up 3.9%. The U.S. 10-year yield inched up to3.354% while Bitcoin jumped another 3.71% to $22,400.
The TSX climbed 195 points to close just short of of 20,000. Fears of oil supply helped drive up WTI by 1.33% to $88 a barrel and WCS by 1.67% to $67. Energy as well as real estate led the Toronto index, which showed green across the board. Big gainers included Suncor up 2.11%, Lundin Mining by 4.17%, and Enbridge up 2.3%. Losers included Corus down 8.23% and fertilizer-maker Nutrien shedding 4.6%.
