Oil slides, stocks rebound
WTI sank nearly 5% on Monday to US$95.45, though the U.S. 10-year yield hovered right below the 5% mark as inflation worries persist. Markets rebounded with tech leading the way in Toronto and New York. The TSX gained over 200 points or 0.57% as energy led four sectors down and financials also showed strength. Big movers: Aecon 8.07%, CNQ -2.23%, Shopify 7.83%, BlackBerry 7.08% and MDA Space 6.18%. Precious metals saw minor movement: silver was down 0.4% to US$65.85 and gold slipped US$36 to US$4,340.
In New York, the S&P rallied 1.49%, the Nasdaq 2.26% and the Dow 0.71%. Intel soared 12.14%, Nvidia 2.3%, Warner Bros. Discovery 10.79%, Moderna 12.27% and Marathon Petroleum -5.3%. Bitcoin jumped 7.25% to nearly US$87,000.
