Mixed markets, but Nvidia rules
Tuesday’s markets saw mixed trading, but Nvidia rallied another 3.53% to not only make a new record high, but surpassed Microsoft as the largest market cap stock at US$3.3 trillion. Despite NVDA’s gains, the Nasdaq sank 1.83%. Tech was mixed as Tesla closed -1.43% and AMD -2.3%. Elsewhere, Walgreens jumped 6.37% and Lennar -4.96%. The S&P added 11 points to establishe its own record close while the Dow advanced 0.13%. The 10-year yield edged down to 4.215% as Bitcoin sank 3% to trade below US$64,500.
The TSX was essentially flat, adding seven points, though only four out of 11 sectors gained. Energy and materials rose the most while staples and industrials trailed. Suncor climbed 1.62% and CNQ 2.21%. As Toronto hosts the mega Collision tech conference, Canadian tech stocks declined. Spotify ended the day -3.49% and Lightspeed -5.47%. Gold added US$10 to US$2,329 an ounce while WTI rallied 1.5% to US$81.50 a barrel.
