China-US truce triggers rally

The trading week began with the U.S. and China announcing both sides would slash tariffs for 90 days as they negotiate an end to the trade war. Markets rocketed on the news, led by tech. On Monday, the Nasdaq soared 4.35%, the S&P 3.26% and the Dow 2.81% or over 1,100 points.
The most influential names on Wall Street were Nvidia up 5.44%, Intel 3.55%, Tesla 6.75%, Amazon 8.07% and Apple 6.18%. The U.S. 10-year yield edged up to 4.475% while Bitcoin tumbled 2.35% to US$101,840.
In Toronto, the TSX rallied 0.64% with tech leading seven sectors higher. Materials sank the most. The key movers on Bay Street were Shopify soaring 14.08%, Aritizia 9.45%, TFI International 9.08%, Whitecap Resources 4.98% and Lundin Gold -17.55%. The shiny rock itself slipped US$88 to US$3,236 while WTI advanced 1.35% to US$61.85.
