Markets rally to end week, yields calm
Markets rallied to end the week on a positive note on Wall Street, but fell short on Bay. On Friday, the S&P closed 1.56%, led by tech, communications and disrcetionary, while the Nasdaq rallied 2.05% and the Dow 1.15% to surge past 34,000. It helped that the U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.622%. The Nasdaq gained 2.1% for the week, the S&P 1.17% and the Dow 0.56%.
Key movers on Friday included AMD up 4.65%, Warner Bros. Discovery 4.82%, Adobe 3.37%, Illumina -8.1%, and Microsoft up 2.49% to make an all-time high. Bitcoin continued its run by advancing 1.65% to $37,300.
While the TSX gained 0.3% during the session, it lost 1% over the week. Energy and tech gained the most while real estate, materials and utilities lagged. Major movers were Crescent Point Energy up 1.88% as the most-traded name, Baytex 3.71%, Saputo -5.85%, Northwest Healthcare -4.29% and Stantec jumping 8.55%. WTI popped 2% to $77.25 though crude oil continues to struggle to stay above $80
