TSX climbs, Wall Street fades
The TSX gained 0.33% or over 110 points Wednesday on the strength of materials and energy. Gold advanced 1.5% to US$4,135, silver added 1.65% to US$59.65 and WTI rose another 2.5% to US$86.45 as attacks between the U.S. and Iran widened. Key names included Baytex up 1.34%, B2Gold 3.15%, Vermilion Energy 7.85%, Bird Construction down 6.71% and Rogers sinking 4.63% as telcos were among the weakest segments. Sectors were mixed.
American stocks struggled to gain ground. The Dow was flat, but S&P slipped 0.14% and the Nasdaq fell 0.57%. Super Micro Computer jumped 19.84%, Westinghouse rallied 10.04%, and Nvidia rose 2.3%, Losing ground were GE Vernova at -8.69% and ServiceNow -6.47%. Bitcoin declined US$500 to US%65,880 and the U.S. 10-year yield climbed to 4.659%.
