Tech rallies, markets mixed
Amid hot inflation and a shaky Mideast peace, tech continued to rally as the Nasdaq jumped 1.27%, Nvidia rose 2.29% and ON Semis soared 11.14%. The S&P gained 0.59%, but the Dow slipped 0.13%. Other key names in New York included AppLovin a -7.57%, Constellation Energy -6.36% and Ford which valued 13.18% as the most-active name. Bitcoin retreated 1.4% to US$79,550 while the U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.473%.
The TSX sank 0.73% as nine sectors lost ground, led by discretionary, tech and real estate. Major movers: Finning International up 8.7%, Capstone Copper 4.93%, Boyd Group -11.98%, and infrastructure names WSP Global -6.54% and Stantec -6.4%. Silver increased 1.3% to US$87.55, gold fell by US$28 to US$4,686 and WTI gave back a dollar to US$101.20.
