Stocks rebound, TSX hits high
A cooling of tensions between the U.S. and Iran lifted the markets in New York and especially Toronto where the TSX gained 0.34% or 112 points to make a new closing high of 33,028. The S&P rose 0.26%, the Dow 0.6% and the Nasdaq 0.25%.
Sectors were mixed in Toronto with industrials and real estate rallying the most while energy and technology languished. Key names included Bombardier up 7.17%, Finning 5.43%, MSA Space 4.55%, Alamos Gold sliding 6.2% and Cenovus slipping 1.64% as the most active name. In New York: Nvidia 2.13%, Blackrock 5.93%, Robinhood -7.79%, Intel -0.82% and Vistra 6.63%.
Commodities declined from recent highs: silver fell 0.85% to US$92.30, gold declined US$11 to US$4,615 and WTI tumbled 4.5% to US$59.20 after Trump dialed back his threats of attacking Iran. The U.S. 10-year yield held edged up to 4.173%. Bitcoin fell 2.2% to US$95,410.
