TSX has winning week, Wall Street slips
Friday markets gained or lost modestly, but the TSX posted another record close and finished the week 1.3% higher. The TSX edged up 11 points to 33,040, but outpaced Wall Street’s main indices which saw modest losses for the day. Over the week, the S&P shed 0.38%, the Nasdaq sank 0.66% and the Dow slipped 0.3%, though they remain near all-time highs.
Sectors were mixed as energy and industrials rallied the most and discretionary, tech and healthcare fell the furthest. Major movers: MDA Space rocketing 14.52%, Silvercrop 10.92%, Capital Power -6.56%, Fairfax Financial -5.21% and Discovery Silver 7.04%. In Wall Street: Super Micro Computer 10.94%, Moderna 6.28%, Micron 7.76%, Vistra -7.54% and Constellation Energy -9.82%. Silver declined 3.5% to US$89.10, gold gave back US$18 to US$4,597 and WTI increased 0.4% to US$59.45. The U.S. 10 -year rose to 4.227%, the highest since last September.
