Quiet Tuesday

Considering the hurly-burly of recent weeks, markets on both sides of the border were calm on Tuesday. Stocks wobbled slightly until the TSX closed 0.14% higher, the Dow flat, the S&P up nine points and the Nasdaq 0.46%. In Toronto, sectors were mixed as gains in staples and materials roughly balanced losses in real estate and healthcare.
Gold, which has been sailing at new highs recently, added US$9 to US$3,020, while Torex Gold soared 7.39% and Sandstorm Gold jumped 7.13%. Elsewhere, BRP closed -6.88%, Nutrien -4.81% and CNQ climbed 0.84% as the most-active name. WTI crude was flat at US$69.20 a barrel.
Similarly, Bitcoin inched US$180 higher to US$88,060 as the U.S. 10-year yield hovered around 4.317%. Major movers in New York: Tesla 3.5%, International Paper 6.49%, UPS -5.05%, Merck -4.81% and Regeneron -4.06%. All eyes remain on the next round of Trump tariffs on April 2, while the Canadian election kicks into high gear.
