Nvidia and tech rebound
Markets leader Nvidia recovered some recent losses by rebounding 6.47% Tuesday. Its performance lifted the Nasdaq by 1.24% as the S&P added 0.35% and the Dow shed 0.8%. The cruise lines sailed to generous gains as Carnival popped 7.87% and Norwegian 4.8%. Pool sank 8.49% and Tesla advanced 2.49%. The U.S. 10-year yield inched down to 4.23%, but Bitcoin rose 2.7% to nearly US$62,000.
Canada’s May inflation rate climbed unexpectedly to 2.9%. All but two sectors sank, led by discretionary and materials. Staples rallied the most. Major movers: Celestica 4.58%, Telus -2.03%, GoEasy 2.32%, Ballard Power -6.27% and Capstone Copper -6.14%. Gold shed US$15 to US$2,319 and WTI slid 1% to US%80.80.
