Mixed Tuesday
Markets reopened Tuesday after holidays in Canada and the U.S. but struggled to find direction. The indices spent most of the session under water, but avoided closing on weakness. The TSX sank 0.54% or 177 points while the American indices barely broke even. The Nasdaq fared the best, rising 0.14%.
On Wall Street, eight sectors gained, led by discretionary and industrials, but heavy losses in materials pulled the TSX down. Major movers: MDA Space soared 6.05%, Brookfield Business Partners 5.82%, Enbridge -4.22%, Barrick Gold -2.57% and B2Gold -2.59%. In Toronto, Norwegian Cruise Line sailed 12.15% higher, Fiserv 6.89%, Apple 3.17%, Leidos -8.38% and General Mills -6.99%. Silver sank more than 4% to US$73.45, gold fell US$110 to US$4,880 and WTI declined 1% to US$62.35. The U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.06% while Bitcoin slid 1.85% to US$67,560.
