Mixed trading
After recent volatility (tariffs, DeepSeek, earnings), markets took a breather on Thursday with the S&P advancing 0.36% and the Nasdaq 0.51%. However, the Dow declined 0.28% and Bitcoin gave back US$75 to US$96,860.
Once more, Nvidia was the most influential name, climbing 3.08%, followed by Ford -7.39%, Palantir 9.83%, Super Micro Computer 7.4% and Tesla -1.04%. The U.S. 10-year held steady around 4.438%.
Similarly, the TSX slipped by 0.39% as seven sectors lost ground, led by tech and telcos. Financials were one area that enjoyed any growth. Key names included Lightspeed -12.89%, Eldorado Gold -11.49%, and Celestica -7.26%. However, the insurers rallied: Great-West Life 10.36% and Power Corp. 4.7%. Gold edged down US$11 to US$2,856 while WTI declined 0.65% to US$70.60 a barrel.
