Microsoft rips, lifting Wall Street

It’s megatech earnings week and Microsoft reported a blow-out quarter on the strength of its cloud business. This lifted tech stocks and Wall Street overall on Thursday with the S&P climbing 0.63%, the Nasdaq 1.52% and the Dow 0.21%.
Microsoft soared 7.63%, Meta 4.3% and CVS 4.11%, which also reported a blow-out. However, Eli Lilly sank 11.66% and Becton Dickinson tumbled 18.13%. Bitcoin rose 2.2% to US$96,600 while the U.S. 10-year yield edged up 4.214%.
In Toronto, the TSX gave back 46 points or 0.19% on weakness in minerals, telcos and staples, though energy enjoyed a positive session. WTI rose 1.5% to US$59.10 while gold continued to lose ground, down US$55 to US$3,233. Major names on Bay Street included Baytex up 6.1%, Cenovus 2.22%, Alamos Gold -9.62%, Bombardier -9.42% and Spin Master -8.2%.
