Flat Monday, Bitcoin up
Monday morning trading began in the red and finished flat on both sides of the border. The TSX added 31 points as sectors were mixed. Materials and financials were strong, but real estate was weak.
Minerals populated the big gainers including Silvercrest Metals up 10.17% and Fortuna Silver Mines by 4.81%. Elsewhere, Blackberry jumped 10.75% after reporting, though Ballard Power closed -10.24% and Celestica -5.38%. WTI held around $78 as gold edged up to $2,185 an ounce.
In New York, the S&P was also flat, the Dow inched up 0.12% and the Nasdaq sank 0.41%. Red-hot semi stocks slid, including Nvidia at -2% and AMD at -4.34%. Trading the most hands was Apple which advanced 1.18%, Moderna surged 8.69% and Paramount Global rallied 6.31%. The U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.098% though Bitcoin surged 4.5% to $72,100.
