Car tariff fears pressure stocks

Shares in Toronto and particularly New York fell after news that fresh car tariffs would be announced sometime after the closing bell. At 4:00 pm EST, the S&P was -1.12%, the Nasdaq -2.04% and the Dow -0.31%.
Tech dragged the indices down, as Nvidia closed -5.74%, Tesla -5.58%, and Super Micro Computer -8.86%. Meanwhile, Moderna sank 7% though Cintas rallied 5.82%. Bitcoin declined US$640 to US$87,255 while the U.S. 10-year yield edged up to 4.354%.
In Toronto, the TSX slipped 0.7% as eight sectors lost ground. Tech and healthcare fell the most while telcos outperformed all. Major movers: BRP 7.42%, South Bow 1.41%, First Quantum Minerals -5.74%, Celestica -9.9% and Teck Resources -6.09%. Gold held at US$3,019 while WTI climbed 1.2% to US$69.80.
