American stocks rise on Canada Day
With the TSX closed for Canada Day, American stocks continued to March higher, despite light volumes. The S&P make its sixth straight record close, inching up 0.52% to 4,319. The Dow added 0.38% and the Nasdaq 0.13%. All the Dow components enjoyed gains.
Nike continued to streak, jumping 2.27% on Thursday as Chevron advanced 1.4%. Other winners: Regeneron rallied 2.88%, Facebook rose 1.92% and Expedia 2.03% as the travel and leisure trade showed some life after recent concerns over the impact of the Delta variant. On the flip side, Walgreens plunged 7.39% on earnings while Bed Bath & Beyond gave back 2% after recent gains. Also in the red were Beyond Meat at -2.86%, Broadcom at -1.51% and Applied Materials at -3.12%. Bitcoin slid another 4.5%, though the price of WTI and WCS oil both rose 2% to continue crude’s rally.
