Rally continues amid tech earnings
Markets continued to rally on Tuesday as Wall Street waited for the big tech companies to report their earnings this week. The S&P climbed 1.56%, the Nasdaq jumped 2.2% well past 11,0000 while the Dow rose 1.05%. There was green across the board, with tech leading the charge.
Tesla leapt 5.2% in heavy trading as the chipmakers surged, with AMD up 4.55% and Nvidia at 5.05%. Meta soared 6%, but lost half that in after-hours trading following the release of disappointing quarters by Alphabet and Microsoft. Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year yield weakened to 4.075% though Bitcoin gained 3.8% to surpass $20,000.
There was green on screens on Bay Street too as the TSX advanced 0.92% to top 19,000. Real estate and utilities led the rally, though cannabis stocks surged too. Canopy soared 25.71% and Tilray popped 11.47%. Nuvei advanced 6.25% as tech enjoyed gains. Meanwhile, Royal Bank retreated 0.53% in heavy trading while NFI Group lost a further 3.28%.
