TSX up, Wall Street mixed
The TSX rallied nearly 1% Monday though stayed below 20,000. All sectors but tech rose, with consumer staples soaring and energy and financials showing strength. WTI oil regained 0.56% to nearly reclaim $70 a barrel, a day after near mutiny by Russia’s mercenary army against Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Major stock movers included Vermilion Energy up 4.75%, TC Energy 3.61%, Imperial Oil 3.68% and Empire adding 3.66%.
In New York, the Dow was flat as the S&P closed -0.45% and the Nasdaq 1-16%. Tech saw losses with some profit-taking including generative AI favrouites which have run up sharply this month. Tesla closed -5.83% and Nvidia -3.5%. Elsewhere, Carnival sank 7.5% while Boston Properties jumped 9.92% and Newell Brands rallied 4.65%. The U.S. 10-year yield came in at 3.715% while Bitcoin declined 0.5% though remained above $30,000.
