TSX returns to 33,000, metals shine
The TSX began the week by returning to 33,000 after rallying 1.7% or over 550 points. Major gains in minerals as well as tech and fins led the rally while utilities and one other sector lost ground. It helped that silver jumped 7% to US$83.10, gold added US$94 to US$5,058 and WTI rose 1.3% to US$64.40. Major names: Iamgold up 10.52%, Orla Mining 10.45%, Alamos Gold 8.4%, Barrick Mining 2.46% and Air Canada -4.49%.
Wall Street also rallied, albeit to a lesser extent: The Nasdaq by 0.9%, the S&P 0.47% and the Dow 0.04%. Key names: AppLovin 13.19%, Oracle 9.64%, Corning 7.56%, Nvidia 2.5% and Viatris 6.72%. The U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.2%. Bitcoin slipped US$360 to US$70,305.
