TSX holds, but Wall St. malaise endures

As Prime Minister Carney met Trump in Washington to discuss tariffs, Canadian stocks held their ground, adding 25 points. Sectors were mixed with outperformance in materials and energy balancing losses in healthcare and tech.
Among the influential names were Enbridge at -1.2%, Baytex -1.42%, CNQ up 1.58%, Shopify -4.87% and Centerra Gold leaping 15.68%. Meanwhile, gold climbed US$88 to US$3,422 while WTI jumped 3.4% to US$59.10.
Wall Street continued to slump as worries continued over America’s tariffs. The S&P closed -0.77%, the Nasdaq -0.87% and the Dow -0.95%. Key movers includes Constellation Energy soaring 10.29%, Ford rallying 2.65%, but Palantir closing -12.05%, Moderna -12.25% and Vertex Pharmaceuticals -10.03%. As the 10-year yield held around 4.306%, Bitcoin edged up US$730 to US$94,970.
