TSX, gold and silver hit record highs
Precious metals powered gold, silver and the TSX to record highs on Monday. The Canadian index rallied 229 points to 31,985 while minerals were by far the strongest sector. Energy also performed well, while healthcare was among the four lagging sectors. The best performers were all about rocks: B2Gold 4.6%, Discovery Silver 7.98%, Ivanhoe Mines 6.29%, Lundin Gold 5.95% and Alamos Gold 5.05%. Silver jumped 2.6% to a record US$68.85 while gold added US$100 to US$4,442. Meanwhile, WTI regained US$1.45 to nearly US$58 as U.S. forces under Trump captured another Venezuela oil tanker.
The three American indices also enjoyed sizable gains: S&P 0.64%, the Nasdaq 0.52% and the Dow 0.47%. Major movers included First Solar up 6.6%, Micron 4.1%, Norwegian Cruise Line 5.34%, Constellation Brands 4.98% and Paramount Skydance 4.29%. As the U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.165%, Bitcoin added US$145 to US$88,285.
