TSX extends gains, Wall Street fades
The TSX continued to recover from last Friday’s sell-off by adding 0.56% or 182 points on Wednesday. Apart from mild weakness in tech, all sectors were up. Major movers were Constellation Brands, up 8.45%, West Fraser Timber 7.18%, FirstService 7.7%, Telus 3.07% as the most-active name and Denison Mines which slid 9.86%. Silver recovered 3.5% to US$88.05 and gold climbed US$23 to US$4,969. WTI increased 1.85% to US$64.40.
Wall Street had a worse day. While the Dow advanced 0.53%, the S&P slid 0.51% and the Nasdaq tumbled 1.51%. Once more, Nvidia was the most-active name, but it slipped 3.41%. Super Micro Computer jumped 13.78% and Eli Lilly soared 10.33% on a beat, but AMD tanked 17.31% and Palantir cratered by 11.62%. Likewise, Bitcoin fell 4%, though the U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.278%.
