TSX edges up, but Wall St. fear rates
The week ended with the TSX edging up 0.12% on Friday but losing 0.74% during the week to stay below 20,000. Actually, more sectors were in the red than green with energy and materials rallying, but staples and industrials lagging.
Major movers included CNQ up 2.7%, Baytex 5.21%, Algonquin Power -4.64%, Thomson Reuters -3.84% and Suncor adding 3.16%. WTI crude regained 2.6% to trade around $73.60.
On Wall Street, the major indices faded Friday as fears of another Fed hike continue to loom in the face of strong employment numbers. The S&P closed -0.26% Friday and -0.53% for the week, the Nasdaq -0.14% and -0.43% over the week, and the Dow -1.56%. Key gainers included Schlumberger up 8.61%, Halliburton 7.99% and Mosaic 5.36%. Major laggards were Biogen at -3.48% and Verizon -3.31%. The U.S. 10-year-yield continued to hover around 4.06% while Bitcoin rose 1.15% to $30,200.
