TSX and minerals gain, Wall Street sinks
Toronto extended its recovery on Tuesday by climbing over 200 points or 0.64%, lifted by a strong performance in minerals as well as staples. Eight sectors were up while losses in tech led three sectors down. Silver jumped over 8% to US$85.50 and gold rallied 6.3% to US$4,955 to make up more of the losses suffered last Friday. Major movers on Bay Street: B2Gold 2.55%, Baytex 4.12%, Energy Fuels 16.33%, Taseko Mines 13.93% and Thomson Reuters -15.83%
In contrast, Wall Street lost its Monday gains: the S&P -0.84%, the Nasdaq -1.43% and the Dow -0.34%. The most active stocks were Nvidia at -2.84% and PayPal -20.31% after profits missed and it changed CEOs. Teradyne jumped 13.41%, Expedia tumbled 15.26% and Palantir rallied 6.85% after reporting a beat. Bitcoin slid 2.7% to US$76,340. The U.S. 10-year yield was steady at 4.269%.
