Stocks fade, silver rebounds
The trading week began with stocks in Toronto and New York rallying in the opening minutes of Monday’s session, but sank throughout the day. By the closing bell, the TSX stood at -0.14% or down 43 points, the S&P -0.16%, the Nasdaq -0.59% and the Dow -0.09%. Key names on Bay Street included CNQ -1.72%, Cenovus -2.09%, Discovery Silver 4.67%, Empire 3.15% and Equinox Gold -4.52%. Seven sectors actually rose, led by staples, while energy led the four laggards as WTI sank 1.45% to US$56.60. Gains and losses were moderate. The TSX was helped by silver rebounding 3.3% to US$63.90, while gold held around US$4,305.
Major movers in New York included Broadcom at -5.59%, Tesla 3.56%, ServiceNow -11.54%, Coinbase Global -6.37% and Norwegian Cruise Line 3.79%. The U.S. 10-year hovered around 4.178%.
