Stocks edge up, post-Nvidia
Stocks finished off the lows of the day after investors perceived (again) positive signs for peace between the U.S. Israel and Iran. The S&P closed 0.17%, the Nasdaq 0.09%, the Dow 0.55% to a record high and the TSX 0.68% or 230 points, close to highs.
The day before, Nvidia reported a positive quarter and raised guidance but shares slipped 1.77% in Thursday trading. Other key names: Ralph Lauren 13.87%, Walmart -7.27%, IBM 12.43% and D-Wave Quantum after Washington announced it was investing in quantum computing.
Nine sectors gained, led by discretionary, financials and utilities while staples saw mild losses. Winners and losers: BlackBerry 7.87%, Energy Fuels 6.8%, Lightspeed -6.64% and Royal Bank 1.26% to reach an all-time high. As stocks climbed, WTI sank 0.7% to US$97.55, silver rallied 1.1% to $76.60 and gold was flat at US$4,540. Likewise, Bitcoin held at US $77,650 and the U.S. 10-year yield 4.564%
