Stocks edge up before inflation data
Wednesday saw markets on Wall and Bay streets climb cautiously ahead of the key U.S. inflation data. The S&P added 0.41%, the Dow 0.35% and the Nasdaq 0.57% to nearly 15,000. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.044%.
Key movers included Palo Alto up 5.2%, Intuitive Surgical leaping 10.13%, Meta rallying 3.67%, Etsy at -2.67% and MGM -2.65%.
The TSX closed 0.16% higher to crack 21,000 with more sectors up than down. Staples, industrials and tech led while energy lagged. Notable names: TD at -1.3% as the most influential name, Baytex -1.41%, Torex Gold 5.76%, Tilray -4.95% and Blackberry 4.07%. WTI crude slipped 1.25% to $71.30.
