Oil spikes, stocks faade
The U.S.-Iran ceasefire ended and with no talks resuming. This sent oil spiking nearly 3% on Monday to US$84.75 and names like Whitecap Resources jumping 2.69%. Energy was one of only two sectors that rallied, while tech and healthcare led the rest of the TSX down by 0.17%. Other key names on Bay Street included Brookfield -2.38%, Lithium Americas -7.66%, CNQ 2.97% and Endeavour Silver -4.67%. Silver itself rose 1.6% to US$65.60, while gold added US$39 to US$4,415.
In New York, the indices were also in the red: the S&P -0.52%, the Nasdaq -0.32% and the Dow -0.51%. Sandisk rocketed 8.88%, Coherent 7.79%, Carvana -7.28%, Constellation Brands -6.19% and Super Micro Computer -3.92%. The U.S. 10-year yield climbed to 4.728% while Bitcoin advanced 2.1% to US$64,335.
