Mixed Tuesday

Markets were lackluster Tuesday, though closed with modest gains. The TSX added 0.25% with sectors being mixed. Once again, materials and energy rallied, but discretionary, tech and real estate lagged.

Making news was WSP Global which was hit by a short-seller’s report and closed -5.44%. Tilray soared 16.72%, First Majestic Silver shone 16.36% though Shopify finished the day -3.43%. Struggling Indigo went private and shares rocketed 22.39%. Gold edged up ever higher to $2,300 an ounce while WTI advanced 0.5% to $85.50 a barrel.

Also lacking direction was Wall Street, which saw the S&P gain 0.11% and the Dow lose just as much. The Nasdaq climbed 0.23%. Paramount Global jumped 14.97%, GE 6.7%, Micron added 4.35% but Ulta Beauty finished the session -15.55% and Intel closed -8.16% after a disappointing quarter. The U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.34% though Bitcoin rose 0.45% to $65,800.
