Mixed session, positive week
Toronto and New York markets were mixed on Friday, but gained during a turbulent week driven by the Mideast war. Finishing Friday: the S&P -0.11%, the Nasdaq 0.35%, the Dow -0.56% and the TSX 0.65%. All indices rose over the week: the S&P 3.56%, the Nasdaq 4.6%, the Dow over 3% and the TSX 1.77%, weighed down by a drop in oil prices. WTI declined 2% to US$95.85.
Major movers on Wall Street: Super Micro Computer 8.79%, Fair Isaac -13.99%, ServiceNow -7.58%, Palo Alto -6.74% and Nvidia 2.57% as the most active name. In Toronto: Celestica 7.33%, Parex Resources 6.01%, Baytex 2.51%, Cogeco -7.95% and CNQ 1.62% as the most active stock. Eight sectors rallied, led by materials and energy while telcos lagged the most. Gold slipped 0.5% to US$4,745 while silver added 1% to US$76.
