Mild Monday amid earnings
The trading week began much like recent sessions with market searching for direction either way. The TSX shed only a few points to close 0.08% lower. Sectors were mixed as energy rallied, but financials and tech lagged.
Notable movers were Royal Bank at -1.35%, TC Energy -1.6%, MTY Food Group -3.03%, but Crescent Point Energy surged 2.71% and Savaria 2.13%. WTI crude added over 1% to nearly trade at $79 a barrel. CN reported a beat after hours and shares climbed.
The picture was just as mixed on Wall Street with the S&P closing Monday up 0.09%, the Nasdaq -0.29%, and the Dow 0.2%. Key movers included First Republic Bank, popping 12.2% during the session, but falling after reporting after hours. Meanwhile, Albemarle rallied 5.88%, Medtronic 4.62%, Carrier Global -7.28% and Keycorp -3.97%. The U.S. 10-year yield was 3.503% while Bitcoin shed 0.45% to around $27,500.
