Markets rebound even as oil climbs
Markets shrugged off inflation worries, at least on Thursday, to rebound even as the price of oil continued to climb. While the Nasdaq was basically flat, the S&P gained 0.33%, the Dow 1.08% and the TSX 1.56%. The U.S. 10-year yield ticked down 5.085% as WTI jumped 2.75% to US$97.70. In materials, silver rallied 3.2% to US$57.30 and gold rose US$65 to US$4,171.
Materials were, by far, the strongest sector on the TSX, followed by staples and discretionary. Energy was the only sector to lose ground and not by much. Major movers on Bay Street included TC Energy -2.87%, Telus 2.78%, Denison Mines 8.77%, Equinox Gold 7.3% and Bombardier 7.1%. In New York: Equifax 7.25%, Reddit 7.24%, Netflix 2.89%, AppLovin 6.52% and Intel -2.8% as the most active stock. Lastly, Bitcoin gained US$590 to US$82,290.
