Flat Thursday, oil sinks
The S&P and Dow made intraday, 52-week highs, but fell short of establishing new closing highs. Amid typically light volumes, both indices closed flat while the Dow added 0.13%.
Trading the most hands again was Tesla which sank 3%, while AMD closed 1.93% higher, Match Group 2.61% and Hess -2.48%. Likewise, there was little movement in the U.S. 10-year yield which hovered around 3.846%. Meanwhile, Bitcoin sank 2% to $42,600.
In contrast, the TSX declined 0.38% to close below 21,000. A big factor was the price of crude oil. Disruption in the Red Sea is clearing up, so WTI prices sank 3% to below $72 a barrel. Materials also weighed on the TSX, though consumer staples rallies. Canadian sectors were mixed for the day. Notable names were Tilray which soared 7.09%, Bausch Health up 3.71%, TC Energy -2.96%, Canada Goose up 2.15% and Energy Fuels at -7.06%.
